Lodz University of Technology supports the development of women and girls in science, education and research. It promotes and recognises women's scientific achievements and encourages girls to study technical subjects. International Women and Girls in Science Day (11.02) is a good opportunity to show the female side of the university.

The authorities of Lodz University of Technology care about equal access of women to managerial positions.

Currently there is only a slight predominance of men among the deans. We have 5 men and 4 women holding dean positions. At faculty level, there is a noticeable predominance of women holding vice-dean positions. There are 17 women compared to 12 men. The situation is even better for women holding positions in administration. A total of 34 women and 18 men hold managerial positions. The statistics are slightly worse in institutes and departments, where there are 11 women compared to 40 men managing the units. At present, as well as in the following years, Lodz University of Technology will be guided by merit-based employment conditions, hence the high representation of women in managerial positions - calculates the Rector of Lodz University of Technology, Professor Krzysztof Jóźwik.

For many years, the University has participated in projects and campaigns influencing changes in women's careers. The "Girls to the polytechnics" and "Women in Tech" campaigns, which have been conducted for 15 years in cooperation with the Perspektywy Educational Foundation, have contributed to the increase in the number of female students at the University and, consequently, of women with degrees and academic titles. In the group of doctoral students, women account for 41 percent, but in the group of PhD students - 45 percent. 34 percent of post-doctoral fellows are scientists, while in the group of full professors, women account for 26 percent. Generally, 39 percent of academic teachers are women.

Lodz University of Technology organises meetings and workshops during which the important role of women in science is emphasised.

We encourage female students to take an interest in research careers. Thanks to this, the employment of women in particular groups of scientists is constantly growing," summarises the statistics of the Rector of Lodz University of Technology, Professor Krzysztof Jóźwik.

Currently, 39 percent of students at TUL are women. The research shows that girls studying the so-called male faculties are more consistent in their choices than men. Proportionally more men drop out of the university, while women take the decision to study technical fields of study in a more deliberate manner and persist in their choices despite adversities.

A considerable part of scientific achievements at Lodz University of Technology is due to women. Women conduct innovative research and are leaders of many scientific teams.

I hope that these growing numbers of women in the groups of doctoral candidates and doctors will soon translate into further careers of women at Lodz University of Technology. In accordance with the adopted action plan of the university for the years 2022-2024, we will additionally introduce mechanisms that will help prevent talented women from giving up their scientific careers for extrinsic reasons - explains the rector, wishing all women further scientific and professional success on the occasion of the International Women and Girls in Science Day.
