The new Council of Lodz University of Technology gathered at its first meeting. The TUL Senate elected the Council for the term lasting from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2024, and it is chaired by Dr. Mirosław Sopek, founder and vice-president for technology of the MakoLab SA Board. Other Members of the Council are: dr inż. Tomasz Krysiński, Vice President for Development and Innovation of Airbus Helicopters, mgr inż. Dariusz Wojciech Szewczyk, President of the Board of Radio Łódź, and from the academic community of the university: prof. Andrzej Bartoszewicz, prof. Wojciech Wolf and dr hab. inż. Jacek Sawicki assoc. prof. Among the members of this body is also the president of the student government, Julia Chojnacka.

During the meeting, the work plan of the Council of Lodz University of Technology for this year was discussed. After the meeting, chairman Sopek said:

- In addition to the tasks that formally arise from the Higher Education Act, we also discussed initiatives that the Council plans to undertake together with the university authorities and the academic community. One of them is to take up the topic of business incubators for start-ups at Lodz University of Technology. As a business person, I think it is extremely important for students to know that they can, and even should, try to develop their own ideas, which can bring them a much better place in their professional lives, as well as benefit the university.

According to the chairman of the Council of Lodz University of Technology, another important initiative is to take up the subject of creating an interdepartmental center for artificial intelligence at the university. As Dr Sopek says:

- Artificial intelligence is no longer just the domain of IT. It is used in many fields and I see a great opportunity for Lodz University of Technology to emphasize its potential in this area even more.
