FLEXindustries will create 7 examples of model transformations, key elements for the change scenario proposed under the European Green Deal, covering technical, digital and business layers. The project will create demonstration installations at industrial sites in Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, Spain, Italy and at the Polish company K-FLEX Łódź - Uniejów. The partners will implement intelligent systems that ensure lower energy consumption, use of renewable energy sources, waste heat recovery and reduction of CO2 emissions.

- We are proud that we are implementing the first Horizon Europe project at Lodz University of Technology. It is also a great example of long-term cooperation between industry and science. FLEXindustries is the second European project implemented by the employees of the Institute of Turbomachinery, in collaboration with K-Flex. Recently, we have started the EU Green Deal project devoted to circular economy - says Dr Eng. Grzegorz Liśkiewicz, the project manager of the Institute.

Dr Eng. Filip Grapow, one of the authors of the project concept adds -

Lodz University of Technology will build a prototype of an ORC installation which enables energy production using heat with lower parameters, e.g. energy of geothermal water, biomass or solar collectors. ORC is a well-known technology, but our concept involves using an unconventional turbine design. There are many industrial plants where the heat is returned directly to the environment. Heat recovery reduces the environmental impact of such a situation, giving additional electricity in return.

The good practices developed will pave the way for similar transformations in other European industries.

FLEXindustries gathers 36 European institutions, among which Lodz University of Technology and K-Flex are the only Polish participants of the project. The budget of Lodz University of Technology is EUR 537750.
