Open Access publications are an important part of the open model of scientific communication. They also bring many benefits to their authors. At the beginning of the new year, Lodz University of Technology launched a special path to subsidise the costs of Open Access publications, which have at least 100 points according to the current ministerial list (currently journals are assigned 20, 40, 70, 100, 140 or 200 points).

The Rector, Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik, explains the initiative

- One of the key conditions for the development of Lodz University of Technology is the constant improvement of the quality of scientific publications of the staff, doctoral students and students of Lodz University of Technology and increasing international recognition of our university. Being present in Open Access makes scientific works easier to access and their authors become more widely recognised. Greater interest in the publication results in an increase in the number of citations and serves to develop international cooperation.

Access to publications in Open Access is free, but placing a scientific paper in a prestigious, peer-reviewed publication involves significant costs, which is why the possibility of obtaining funding from the so-called task budget separated at the university is so valuable.
