Expanding international cooperation networks, synergies between business and science, or development through the Erasmus+ programme are just some of the challenges facing the innovation centre soon to be opened in Lodz. The agreement announcing the establishment of the Erasmus+ InnHUB Lodz was signed on 5 October as part of the ceremonial inauguration of the academic year at Lodz University of Technology.

The development of a network of regional innovation centres has become one of the priority objectives of the Foundation for the Development of the Education System, which is the National Agency for the Erasmus+ Programme and the European Solidarity Corps. The signatories of the agreement launching the latest facility were Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik, Rector of Lodz University of Technology and Paweł Poszytek, Ph.D., Director General of the Foundation for the Development of the Education System.

The Erasmus+ programme, although most often associated with student exchanges, is not only aimed at students. - It is addressed to all those who want to improve their competences in such a way that they fit in well with the needs of the labour market. We do not specify age groups, social groups or institutions," explains Dr Paweł Poszytek, Director General of the Foundation for the Development of the Education System. - The European Commission's budget for the Erasmus+ programme for 2021-2027 is more than €28 billion. We are very keen that the emerging centres help to make the most of this money," he adds.

- The new centre is of great importance given the pace of development that universities and industry must follow. The high-tech sector is developing rapidly in Lodz. An essential factor in building a culture of innovation and creativity is the interaction between science, business, the arts, social organisations and public authorities," says Rector Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik and emphasises, "The Erasmus+ InnHUB Innovation Centre will promote the Lodz region, strengthen international cooperation and support the implementation of numerous projects. It will also support young and old alike in adding to their knowledge, because nowadays the knowledge acquired at some stage in our lives is no longer enough, we need to refresh and develop it throughout our lives.

The Erasmus+ InnHUB Łódź will become the fifth regional support centre for the Erasmus+ programme on the map of Poland. It will be located in the International Cooperation Centre of Lodz University of Technology.  Similar venues have previously been established in Krakow, Katowice, Gdansk and Poznan. The Lodz point will be available to all interested parties later this year on the premises of Lodz University of Technology. The facility will serve as an information centre, a place for workshops, training or meetings between representatives of science, innovation and business.

The next call dates for the Programmes start in the spring.
