The event, addressed to students from French and German universities that TUL collaborates with, will focus on Industry 4.0 which has been transforming manufacturing companies. Divided into groups, the participants will attend morning lectures and meetings at TUL, whereas for the afternoon sessions, they will go to leading global companies conducting some of their business operations in Łódź and its vicinity: Amazon, BSH, Good Wood, and Faurecia.

‘The industry of today is in need of individuals who are capable of out-of-the-box thinking, who can see different facets of any problem, which is why a new method of teaching and learning, namely Challenge-Based Learning, has been incorporated into the practical part of the program’ Małgorzata Jakubowicz, TUL Center for International Cooperation, coordinator of the project, explains.

The main objective of the School is raise the students’ awareness of the need for them to develop competences required of what has been dubbed ‘the engineer of the future’, e.g., the ability to process and analyze large amounts of data from a range of sources and effectively apply Big Data tools, but also to be creative, to come up with their own ideas, especially in the area of product and technological innovation. During the workshops a number of activities have also been included intended to introduce the participants to the Polish culture, and to promote Poland, particularly Łódź, as a great place to study.

The School of Competences for the Industry of the 21st Century ECI XXI is a project carried out with the support of the funding granted by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange through the SPINAKER – Intensive International Curricula program. The second edition of the school is planned to take place in the summer of 2023.
