A little over a year ago, the Rector of Lodz University of Technology, Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik, and the President of the Management Board of Whirlpool Company Poland, Fabio Pommella, signed a letter of intent to initiate cooperation with the world's leading appliance manufacturer. Today, the next step in the integration of the two partners has been taken.

Vice-Rector for Education Assoc. Prof. Andrzej Romanowski, and Dean of the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering - Assoc. Prof. Jacek Kucharski, together with Michele Fabbrocile, director of the Whirlpool plant in Lodz, welcomed students starting long-term internships at the company in the winter semester 2022/23. The students will study in a dual formula, taking classes at the university and learning about the issues and problems of the Whirlpool Plant, being on site 40 hours a month.

- This is a great opportunity for me to develop professionally and personally. I will be working in the autonomous vehicle department. For two and a half years, having regular contact with the company, I will certainly gain a lot of experience, which will culminate in the completion of my diploma thesis, also in practical terms,' says Emanuel Wasiluk, a mechatronics student qualified for the programme.

Representatives of TUL and Whirlpool present at the meeting stressed the particular importance of cooperation between companies and universities in the current labour market situation, and emphasised the wide range of possibilities for action, including in the area of research and application work. Currently, students of mechatronics are taking part in the programme, although this does not preclude the expansion of cooperation to include students of other faculties.

This is another such agreement for the mechatronics major, which leads to the development of competencies and practical experience in cooperation with companies from the Lodz region associated with the white goods industry. As in the case of the cooperation with BSH, the entire project is overseen on the part of the Lodz University of Technology by the Vice-Dean for Development, Assoc. Prof. Łukasz Szymański.
