The Academic Sports Gala was originally scheduled to take place in October at the Sports Bay of Lodz University of Technology. Due to the pandemic the plans were changed and this year's summary of the sporting competition took place online on Tuesday, 15 December. Lodz University of Technology once again stood on the podium in the medal classification.

Akademicki Związek Sportowy [Academic Sports Association] had a very successful year. - It was a difficult year due to the pandemic, but on the other hand it was a demanding year in which the entire organisation had to prove itself. And I think that AZS did well," said during the Gala the President of the Board of AZS, Professor Alojzy Nowak, the Rector of the University of Warsaw.

Lodz University of Technology was successful in the prestigious medal qualification - it came second. Athletes of our university won 33 medals, including 13 gold, 11 silver and 9 bronze medals. The Rector, Professor Krzysztof Jóźwik, who was present at the Gala, said after receiving a beautiful statuette designed by the sculptor, Adam Fedorowicz.

– Holding this trophy, which weighs 8 kilograms, is very rewarding. I would like to thank the students and organisers of sports life at Lodz University of Technology for their achievements in this difficult year and such a great success. I appreciate the excellent results of all athletes from Polish universities.

In the general classification of the AMP, Gdansk University of Technology was the winner, ahead of Warsaw University and the Silesian University of Technology.

During the gala, Lodz University of Technology, celebrating the 75th anniversary of its establishment, was also honoured. The president, Prof. Alojzy Nowak, expressed his best wishes and presented a commemorative plaque to the rector, Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik, who said: "It is my wish that apart from research and modern education, academic sport should play an important role at our university. The European University Games 2022, organised among others by Lodz University of Technology, will be the best example that sport has its place in Lodz.

The Gala, which began with a virtual performance of the Academic Choir of the University of Lodz singing Gaudeamus Igitur, was led by Aleksandra Szutenberg, a journalist with Polsat Sport.
