By adopting the best and proven practices, Lodz University of Technology is implementing the project "Building Excellence at Lodz University of Technology". The Rector awarded grants for the best good practices showing examples of actions that can positively influence the development of the university in the area of science, education and organisation of academic life.

More than thirty applications were received for the project, indicating that activities are already working well at various faculties of Lodz University of Technology.

- By initiating an intra-university project "Building Excellence at Lodz University of Technology", we wanted to identify good practices applied by a given faculty in order to implement them in other units of the university. We selected the winners by awarding 6 grants of PLN 5,000 each. All the activities submitted by the faculties were collected in a special publication, which will serve to strengthen cooperation between the units of Lodz University of Technology, improve the functioning of the university and strengthen its organisational culture," says the Rector of Lodz University of Technology, Professor Krzysztof Jóźwik.

The Rector's College of Lodz University of Technology has selected laureates whose practices are particularly worthy of following, two examples in each of the three areas of the university's operation - science, education and organisation.

Winners of individual categories

As a good practice, important from the point of view of the conducted scientific work, the cooperation of science and business conducted by the Business Council of the Faculty of Chemistry and the Scientific and Economic Council of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Engineering was indicated.

The initiative awarded in the field of education is the "Innovation" project undertaken by the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering in which groups of several best students of the Faculty carry out project works on topics set out by companies. The Faculty of Chemistry, in turn, by engaging particularly gifted school students in research projects, acquires talented students whom it surrounds with individual mentors, supporting their scientific development.

An exemplary practice is the student service management support system introduced at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. It supports efficient handling of cases by the Dean's Office staff, and relieves students from waiting in long queues. The Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering was also awarded for the idea to allocate a special budget, the use of which is decided by the students in a vote. The money was used to create a public kitchenette at the Faculty.
