The appreciated invention was the project called “A mixture for making disposable biodegradable packaging and utensils, especially for the food industry, and a method for making packaging and utensils from this mixture”.

The innovative solution by Lodz university of Technology makes it possible to produce biodegradable packaging from plant waste.

The developed recipes assume the use of up to 69.5-79.5 percent of olive pomace waste, obtained after the production of olive oil from it, and 20-30 percent of grain mixture in the production of packaging and disposable dishes. The production of packaging is 4-5 stages, depending on the variant, and has a low carbon footprint. In addition, the method developed by the team does not require the use of additional synthetic chemicals, Joanna Grzelczyk, PhD explains.

The award-winning project from TUL was developed by a team whose members are Joanna Grzelczyk, PhD, Ilona Galązka-Czarnecka, PhD, and Joanna Oracz, PhD. According to the competition organizers, all the awarded inventions responded to current needs. A total of 83 technologies were submitted, 20 of which were nominated. The announcement of the results took place on June 27, at the gala celebration held at Dziennik Gazeta Prawna headquarters.
