The event was attended by: Vice-Marshal of the Lodz Voivodeship - Piotr Adamczyk, TUL Vice-Rector for Development - Prof. Paweł Strumiłło, director of the Landscape Parks Complex of the Lodz Voivodeship - Katarzyna Krakowska and greenery architect - Barbara Wycichowska PhD from the TUL Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning.

The participants emphasized the need for cooperation in the Race To Zero campaign. In their opinion, increasing greenery - not only in our voivodeship and country - but also in the world, is a burning issue. TUL employees and students participated in these activities with great commitment. Students of the Secondary School of TUL also took part in the event.

The first tree was planted by Prof. Paweł Strumiłło and the initiator of the action, Adam Owczarek. Another, a pedunculate oak, was planted by Chancellor Włodzimierz Fisiak. Vice-Marshal Piotr Adamczyk brought a seedling of a rare variety of apple tree - costel’s apple - which was already admired by Jan III Sobieski and was grown in his garden in Wilanów. Then volunteers under the watchful eye of gardeners planted trees and shrubs - hawthorn, English oak and different rose varieties. The organizers hope that the planted plants will grow luxuriantly and serve future generations of the TUL academic community.

The tree planting campaign involved a free donation of 350 tree and shrub seedlings Landscape Park Complex of the Lodz Voivodeship for the private use of TUL employees and students. It was also possible for them to receive birdhouses. This was thanks to the new initiative of the Lodz Voivodeship Owocowe Łódzkie, implemented as part of the project Lodz Voivodeship - the Garden of Poland.

The selection of seedlings was rich, including: dark-fruited chokeberry, Dart's Red Lady barberry, Golden Ring barberry, dogwood, single-necked hawthorn, hibiscus, mountain ash, coral viburnum, mahonia, mulberry, scarlet fireberry, quince, sea buckthorn and bumblebee. During the campaign, foresters from the Landscape Parks Complex of the Łódź Voivodeship gave interesting talks on each of the available plant varieties and advised on choosing the right seedlings.

Those who collected the seedlings can take part in a competition by posting a photo of them planting the trees under a post on FB and TUL Instagram, hashtag #sadzonkiNaPŁ. The prizes are eco-gadgets.
