Lodz University of Technology, in a consortium with business partners from Poland and Turkey, will develop a household wind turbine capable of cooperation and integration with other renewable energy sources. The National Centre for Research and Development and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey have granted more than €300,000 for the research.

The consortium, in which TUL is the leader, includes two Polish companies: Enerwis and Ergos related to the energy sector, and Turkish start-up Devecitech, developer of the Enlil smart turbine.

As reported by Dr Michał Lipian from the Institute of Turbomachinery at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at TUL, the tasks in the project have been defined according to the available experience and knowledge.

Lodz University of Technology will design the generator and test a prototype turbine under urban conditions. The starting point for our research is the Turkish Enlil wind turbine, and the aim is to develop an innovative and highly efficient vertical axis wind turbine, which we have named Ninlil. The turbine will be suitable for urban and suburban applications, generating energy not only by natural winds, but also by winds generated by vehicle traffic, for example.

Ergos will develop the control and automation systems tailored to the needs of the machine under development, and Enerwis will be responsible for ensuring that the prepared prototype meets the requirements of the renewable energy market and for working with external partners.

The ambition of the team designing the backyard wind turbine is to bring the design to such a level of technological readiness that will make it possible to start the process of certifying the machine in order to introduce it on the market, says Prof. Krzysztof Jóźwik, the Rector of TUL and the Head of the Institute of Turbomachinery. - I am glad that the university has recently obtained so many pro-ecological projects. Prosumer microgeneration is becoming increasingly important, which is why it is so important to accelerate its development.
