The run of sporting successes for the students of Lodz University of Technology continues. Our karate fighters have once again won the general classification of the Polish Academic Championships, winning as many as 10 medals.

Students from 37 universities competed in the kata and kumite categories at the Polish Academic Championships in karate held in Warsaw (6-7.05). The karate athletes from Lodz University of Technology showed their great form, achieving fantastic results - first places in the general classification and in the classification of technical universities.

Gold medals for TUL:

  • Kinga Harast (IFE/OiZ) in the women's +68 kg individual kumite - the current EUG 2022 European Champion,
  • Michał Bankowski (OiZ) in the men's individual kumite +84.kg,
  • Bartosz Wojciechowski (BAIŚ) in men's individual kumite - 60 kg,
  • Krzysztof Szewczyk (BINOŻ) in men's individual kumite -75 kg,
  • men's team in kumite (Bartosz Wojciechowski, Krzysztof Szewczyk, Michał Bankowski, Jakub Dynda).

Bronze medals:

  • Julia Komorowska (FTIMS) in the women's individual kumite -50 kg,
  • Jakub Dynda (OiZ) in the men's individual kumite +84 kg,
  • Michał Janczewski (BAiŚ) in men's individual kumite - 67 kg,
  • women's kumite team (Lidia Pawlicka, Julia Komorowska, Kinga Harast),
  • men's kumite team (Jarosław Kozioł (WTIMS), Michał Janczewski and Kacper Broś (WIPOŚ).

The 5th place was won by the men's kata team, and the 7th places went to: Lidia Pawlicka (WCh) in women's individual kumite -61 kg and Kacper Broś in men's individual kumite -75 kg.

Many thanks to the section coaches: Janusz Harast and Kinga Harast for the work they put into preparing for the competition, and I congratulate the whole team on their excellent starts and fantastic successes, which brought 10 medals to our university, said Dr Ewa Brochocka, Head of the Sports Centre at TUL.
