A team of Robotics students from the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering at Lodz University of Technology has once again achieved international success. They took third place in the grand finals of the World Robot Summit in Japan.

We knew it would be very tough in the final, the first two teams marked their advantage and showed how much work they had done over the last three years. At the same time we felt the breath of the fourth team, which after the elimination round was just behind us, so we knew that the slightest mistake could cost us a lot - says Łukasz Kędzierski, the team leader.

According to the students participating in the competition, each team had to perform a different scenario of the inspection and rescue task than in the qualifying round. There were no repeats or second chances, everything had to be done right, and the smallest mistake, just like in real life, could result in the failure of the entire mission and end their dreams of winning the competition. Fortunately, they performed the subsequent competitions correctly and maintained their high position from the preliminaries, taking third place. In the final our team was the only one from outside Japan.

For the Raptors it was a very mentally and physically exhausting trip. The team spent the first two weeks in quarantine, simultaneously polishing algorithms for the competition. However, immediately after the competition, due to restrictions related to Covid-19, the Raptors had to pack up their equipment and were transported near the airport from where they are returning to Poland today.

This year's World Robot Summit competition was on a very high technological level compared to the previous edition. The high place of the Raptors, who came to the competition with a much rejuvenated team, is even more satisfying.
