Dr Zywilla Fechner from the Institute of Mathematics at TUL received the 2020 Award of the Polish Women in Mathematics Society (PTKM). Her series of publications on long-term research on problems derived from hypergroup theory was appreciated.

Dr Zywilla Fechner is an assistant professor in the Division of Insurance and Capital Markets at the Institute of Mathematics. Her scientific interests include Fourier analysis in its broadest sense,

Dr Fechner herself explains what her research involves:

What we are currently working on in research is a broad Fourier analysis on abstract structures called hypergroups. Some of the hypergroups can be used to describe particle collision models or random walks on multidimensional cubes. Potential applications of our research include formal justification of solutions to problems from physics, chemistry or information theory.

Dr Fechner is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Technical Physics, Information Technology and Applied Mathematics. She teaches subjects related to statistics and data analysis at first and second cycle studies.
