Scientific achievements

Andrzej Romanowski, PhD, DSc, Eng., Associate Professor, conducts research in the discipline of technical informatics and telecommunications. He is an outstanding specialist in applied computer science, cyber-physical systems and digital forensics. His scholarly output includes 114 publications in international journals and conference proceedings, including publications indexed in the ACM Digital Library, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, IEEE Pervasive Computing and Behaviour & Information Technology. The majority of his publications have been developed in international collaboration with universities such as TU Wien, Utrecht, University of Bergen, LMU Munich and Chalmers University of Technology.

The key achievement of Prof. Romanowski is the development of unique digital forensics software suit, created within an Internal Security Fund project in cooperation with the Police Central Forensic Laboratory. The project, the first in Poland carried out under the innovative partnership formula, delivered an unique system for acquiring, securing, archiving, processing and analysing digital evidence, thereby strengthening forensic practice and the operational capabilities of public security institutions.

Research profile

Prof. Romanowski’s research focuses on the design and analysis of systems supporting users’ safety, health and well-being, as well as on the development of methods for the analysis of digital data used in threat analysis and digital forensics. An important area of his activity concerns technologies that enhance the resilience, predictability and security of cyber physical systems, including sensor systems, situational awareness tools, data visualisation, AR/VR and interfaces supporting the work of operators and experts. In parallel, he conducts research on human interaction with intelligent systems, integrating experimental methods, prototyping and evaluation.

Industrial projects and works

Prof. Romanowski has carried out national (NCN, NCBR, FBW) and international (EU, IAEA, EPSRC) projects concerning security, data analysis and the application of computer science in industrial and institutional practice. In cooperation with law enforcement agencies and enterprises, he has co-developed solutions in digital forensics, OSINT, analysis of digital traces, instant messengers, social networks and P2P systems. He is a coauthor of intellectual-property-protected solutions, including a European
patent on bimodal tomography and a patent application in the field of intelligent tomography sensors, as well as work on technologies for the detection of hazardous materials.
