Academic Achievements
Katarzyna Boczkowska, PhD, Eng., is a researcher in the field of Management and Quality Sciences, specializing in occupational health and safety management. Her academic output comprises more than 100 publications. Among her most significant recent achievements is the co-authorship of the monograph Safety Management: Psychological Aspects of Implementing Organizational Change, published by CRC Press/Routledge. The book presents an innovative approach to safety management, emphasizing the role of psychological factors and organizational change processes in the successful implementation of safety initiatives.
Research Profile
Dr. Boczkowska’s research focuses on occupational safety management, safety culture and climate, and Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) programmes. Her work particularly explores employee participation in creating safe working environments, as well as the psychological and social determinants of effective safety strategies. She investigates these issues across both industrial enterprises and healthcare organizations, where workplace safety is a critical component of organizational performance. Her research is inherently interdisciplinary, integrating perspectives from management and quality sciences, occupational psychology, and ergonomics with the practical challenges faced by contemporary organizations.
Industry Collaboration and Recognition
Dr. Boczkowska has led the implementation of Behavior-Based Safety programmes in industrial companies, including NEVEON and Corning Communications Polska. These initiatives have contributed to substantial reductions in workplace accidents, strengthened safety culture, and enhanced occupational health and safety management systems. She trains labour inspectors and occupational health and safety professionals. For more than 23 years, she has directed the postgraduate programme Occupational Health and Safety Management, educating specialists responsible for workplace safety in companies and public institutions.
In addition, she has extensive experience as a court-appointed expert witness, having prepared more than 200 expert reports and opinions concerning occupational accidents and workplace safety issues. Her contributions have been recognized with the Third Prize in the National Competition for the Improvement of Working Conditions, organized by the Ministry of Family and Social Policy, for research on safety culture and climate at PKN ORLEN. She is also a co-organizer of the conference series Workplace Safety Depends on You.
