Michał Domińczak, DSc, PhD, Eng., Arch., is a researcher in the field of Architecture and Urban Planning. His scholarly contributions include pioneering studies on the impact of architectural and building regulations on the development of urban form and the advancement of New Urbanism methodology. Among his most significant achievements is a comprehensive synthesis of the historical evolution of building law and urban planning regulations from a global perspective, demonstrating their fundamental influence on urban structures and building typologies. In recent years, he has developed a new research area focused on resilient architecture, investigating design strategies that enhance the capacity of buildings, infrastructure, and communities to withstand contemporary security threats and crisis situations.
Research Profile
His research interests encompass urban design, the history of building regulations, urban regeneration, spatial planning, and traditional and classical architecture. His work integrates historical, design-oriented, and practical perspectives, enabling the development of innovative solutions to contemporary challenges in urban development and public space design. Since 2024, he has expanded his research to include infrastructure security and the design of architecture resilient to sabotage, diversionary actions, and threats associated with unmanned aerial systems. He has completed research fellowships at leading academic institutions in the United States, including the University of Miami.
Industry Collaboration and Recognition
As founder and President of the Military Design Office AMW Invest he has been responsible for major strategic infrastructure projects supporting national security. These include facilities related to the F-35 aircraft programme, the expansion of the GROM Special Forces Unit, and infrastructure developed for allied military forces. He collaborates closely with the Special Infrastructure Bureau of the Polish Ministry of National Defence and the Engineering Troops Directorate of the Polish Armed Forces.
He serves on the Scientific Council of the Institute of Urban and Regional Development and is a member of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art in the United States. He is also an expert for the Fulbright Poland Commission and the Jagiellonian Club Analytical Centre in the field of spatial planning and urban development. His distinctions include the Minister of Infrastructure Award for the best doctoral dissertation in spatial planning and the Vitruvius Award of the Committee for Architecture and Urban Planning of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
