Szklarska Poręba is one of the most beautiful places in Poland. The town is located in the picturesque Kamienna River valley (including its tributaries), with Szrenica mountain (1,362 m above sea level) overlooking the town from the south, and Wysoki Kamień (1,058 m above sea level) and Czarna Góra (965 m above sea level) mountains from the north. There are two tall waterfalls in the area: Kamieńczyk (the tallest waterfall of the Polish Karkonosze – its threshold is situated at 843 m over sea level and the water falls in a cascade from the height of 27 m into the Kamieńczyk Gorge) and Szklarka (13.3 m). They are often visited by tourists. Szklarska Poręba is the largest climatic station of the Lower Silesia region, which results from the topography of the area allowing for very fast exchange of air masses. These excellent climatic conditions are conducive to active recreation. There are many cycling and hiking routes in and around the city, offering different levels of difficulty. Tourists have the possibility of downhill skiing (Szrenica being the skiing center) and cross-country skiing – Polana Jakuszycka (Jakuszycka Glade) is one of the best resorts of this type in Poland. Numerous events, such as Bieg Piastów (the International Piast Cross-Country Skiing Competition) – the oldest and biggest such event in Poland – are organized here. Those who love adrenaline may also choose rock-climbing or whitewater kayaking.

“CIS” Recreational Resort of Lodz Univeristy of Technology is located in Szklarska Poręba Górna (Upper Szklarska Poręba) on Demokratów Street, in the vicinity of a railway station.
