Scientific achievements
Prof. Marcin Kamiński is a leader int the discipline of civil engineering, geodesy and transport. He is an outstanding specialist in stochastic mechanics and numerical methods in the analysis of engineering structures. His publications include 212 papers published in international scientific journals, most of which in Q1 journals such as Computers and Structures, International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, and also Composite Structures. He is ranked among the 2% of most influential scientists in the world.
The most important scientific achievement of Prof. Kamiński is the development of methods using relative entropy and probabilistic entropy in the analysis of structural reliability. The proposed approach makes it possible to determine the measure of statistical distance between the stress state and the load-bearing state of a structure. It has been implemented in numerical algorithms based on the stochastic perturbation method. He has also developed machine learning algorithms to determine random characteristics of the structural response to static and dynamic loads under uncertainty conditions, which he plans to develop in line with global trends towards artificial intelligence.
Scientivic profile
Prof. Kamiński develops advanced methods of stochastic mechanics for the analysis of structures in the context of parameter uncertainty and randomness propagation. His work includes the development and application of Shannon entropy and relative entropy methods in the analysis of structural reliability, homogenization of composite materials and modeling of mechanical system responses. Integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques with classical methods of mechanics to determine the characteristics of random structures and to analyze the dynamics, vibrations and stability of systems with uncertainty.
Research projects and cooperation
He heads a NCN OPUS research project „Probabilistic entropy in engineering computations” (2022–2026), carried out in international cooperation with Politecnico di Milano, the University of Naples Federico II and Ohio State University. He participates in the PRIN international project on non-local mechanics of soft nanostructures. He cooperates with industry in the field of design and reliability analysis of steel structures. He is the associate editor of Mechanics Research Communications. He was awarded with
J. Argyris Prize in computational mechanics by ECCOMAS-Elsevier and he received the Minister of Science and Higher Education Award for scientific achievements in 2023.
