Scientific achievements 

Prof. Paweł Strumiłło is a leading scuencist in biomedical engineering in the discipline of technical informatics and telecommunications. His publications include 116 scientific articles and three monographs, indexed in international bibliographic databases. His most significant achievements include electronic assistive systems for people with sensory and mobility impairments. These comprise the b‑Link system for human–computer interaction via blinking, and electronic navigation systems for blind people. The b-link system was developed in collaboration with Orange Labs; it has been made available online and downloaded over 20,000 times. The navigation system for the blind received an award from the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development.

Research profile

Prof. Strumiłło’s research includes signal processing methods (including EEG), medical image analysis, artificial intelligence solutions and multimodal systems using sound, image and haptics for technologies supporting navigation and spatial orientation of blind people. He also studies human echolocation, sensory interfaces, gesture recognition and the use of machine learning methods in medical diagnostics. His work combines experimental and applied approaches, leading to the development of health, 
rehabilitation and communication support systems that are in line with the trends of modern assistive technologies. 

International projects and cooperation 

He led the NCN OPUS research project „Echolocation of the blind – the influence of signal type and directionality of sound source on the acoustic location of obstacles” (2020–2023). He has also been involved in national and international projects, including the Horizon 2020 „Sound of Vision” project that lead to the development of replacement vision systems based on acoustic and haptic signals. He cooperates with international partners, especially Norwegian (University of Stavanger, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences) and Turkish (Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam University, Mustafa Kemal University). He is a member of important scientific bodies: IEEE, the Committee on Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Committee on Electronics and Telecommunications of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
