On 26th February, the President of the Republic of Poland conferred the title of professor of engineering sciences on dr hab. inż. Jerzy Zgraja of the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering (WEEIA).

Professor Zgraja is a graduate of the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering (WEEIA) where, after working for a year in the design and implementation office, he took up a job of an assistant in the Department of Thermal Energy Conversion at the Institute of Electrical Power Engineering. At WEEIA he received his doctoral degree in 1988 and postdoctoral degree in Electrical Engineering in 2008. Since 2009 he has been employed at the Institute of Applied Computer Science.

His research, initially focused on the effective use of electromagnetic fields for heating purposes, was later extended to include power electronics power sources, numerical computational methods for coupled field problems, and optimization techniques in numerical field-circuit calculations.

Prof. Zgraja did research internships at Universität Hannover and Universite du Quebec and he is the author of more than 120 scientific publications as well as two monographs on topics related to computational aspects of electromagnetic field, thermal field and thermal stresses. He is also the author of two patents and a number of industrial implementations.

He has been the manager of four research grants, including the Polish Applied Research Programme conducted by The National Centre for Research and Development, which resulted in globally innovative solutions concerning intelligent power sources for induction heating.

Professor Zgraja is serving his third term in office as the chairman of the Polish Committee of Electrotechnology at Association of Polish Electrical Engineers (SEP). He is also an associate member of the Electrical Engineering Committee at The Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) and International Union for Electricity Applications (UIE) and sits on the editorial boards of two international scientific journals.

He was awarded the Gold Medal for Long Service, the Medal of the National Education Commission and the Silver Cross of Merit.

After work, he enjoys spending time in the comfort of his home, listening to music, riding a bike or horseback.
