ŻU: The start of a new year provides an opportunity to take stock of what was achieved and to plan new projects. Let's begin with the stock-taking first. What do you consider to have been the most important and rewarding achievement in 2022, and what do you find to have been the hardest challenge?

The agreement signed on Tuesday (10.01) between Lodz University of Technology and the Saint-Gobain Group in Poland, pertains to joint activities for the development and education of students, as well as jointly conducted research projects.

"When it reaches an IQ of 100 or 150, there will be no problem. But when a 1000 or 10,000, what then? This could be humanity's greatest achievement. But at the same time its end," this is what Stephen Hawking said about artificial intelligence. It is undoubtedly one of the fastest growing branches of computer science, and at the same time a very interesting topic of scientific research. Prof. Anna Fabijanska (Hirsh Index 14, about 900 citations, professorship at 39) uses artificial intelligence to analyse digital images, among other things.

The passing year 2022 brought many unique events and spectacular successes to Lodz University of Technology. In July, the university was the main host of a major sporting event, the European Universities Games, which attracted several thousand students from over 400 universities from 37 countries.

Reducing carbon dioxide emissions is one of the biggest challenges facing civilisation. Dawid Zawadzki, M.Sc., who is designing a compact CO2 absorption device, wants to make his contribution to solving this problem. In the future, it could be used on oil platforms or ships.
