Scientific achievements
He is a distinguished specialist in organic chemistry. His scientific output includes 136 journal publications listed in the JCR and several book chapters. He was one of three editors of the two-volume work Asymmetric Organocatalysis: New Strategies, Catalysts, and Opportunities, comprising 21 chapters prepared with the participation of eminent representatives of the scientific community.
Research profile and research directions
His scientific interests are related to one of the most important current trends in contemporary organic chemistry, namely asymmetric catalysis. They concern the synthesis and utilization of catalysts with precisely defined three-dimensional structures in the synthesis of biologically relevant compounds. Professor Albrecht is involved in designing, modifying, and applying new catalysts, as well as identifying unique chemical transformations. Among his most significant achievements are the development of innovative synthetic methodologies based on vinylogy, new strategies for hydrazone activation and organocatalytic higher-order cycloaddition. The solutions developed may serve as innovative tools for the production of new drugs, pesticides, and other organic compounds of significant utilitarian value. He has led numerous research grants funded by the National Science Centre (OPUS, SONATA BIS, SHENG – a Polish-Chinese NCN–NSFC competition), the Foundation for Polish Science (Homing Plus), and the National Centre for Research and Development (LIDER).
Honours and recognition from the scientific community
He has been repeatedly awarded for his scientific activity. He is a laureate of the Stanisław Kostanecki Medal of the Polish Chemical Society, the Włodzimierz Kołos Scientific Award of the 3rd Department of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Young Scientist Medal of the Warsaw University of Technology, the Scientific Award of the Mieczysław Mąkosza Foundation for Supporting Young Scientists, and the Award for Outstanding Achievements Contributing to the Development of Science for young researchers working in the Łódź Voivodeship. He was also a finalist in the 14th edition of the Science Awards of Polityka.
Professor Łukasz Albrecht holds numerous positions in international organizations. He is a member of the Supervisory Board of EIT Health InnoStars and the Polish representative in Division III of IUPAC (Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry). In 2024, he was elected Vice-Chair of the Chemistry Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Throughout his career, he has frequently served as an expert or reviewer evaluating grant and scholarship applications in competitions organized by ERC, NCN, FNP, and NCBR.
