Scientific achievements
Professor Iwona Szynkowska-Jóźwik from the Faculty of Chemistry at Lodz University of Technology is a distinguished expert in chemical sciences. Her research encompasses analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, forensic chemistry, surface physicochemistry, heterogeneous catalysis, and photocatalysis. Her scientific output includes over 230 publications, most of which have appeared in journals indexed with an Impact Factor, as well as more than 50 chapters in monographs and encyclopedias. She is also a co-inventor of nine patents and has contributed to the development of innovative technologies for reducing mercury emissions in coal combustion processes, deodorization systems, and waste-free chlorine removal from gas mixtures.
Research profile and research directions
Professor Szynkowska-Jóźwik’s research focuses on the application of advanced analytical techniques, including TOF-SIMS, SEM-EDS, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, LA-ICP-MS, AAS, and LIBS, for solving complex problems in trace analysis and obtaining qualitative and quantitative information in various fields. Her studies address challenges in forensic science, dentistry, environmental monitoring, food analysis, product authentication, testing of raw materials and textile products, and the analysis of cultural heritage and works of art. She has participated in more than 40 research projects and led two international research initiatives, contributing significantly to the development of analytical methodologies and environmental technologies.
Honours and recognition from the scientific community
Professor Szynkowska-Jóźwik has received numerous distinctions for her scientific and organizational achievements, including the Bronze Cross of Merit, the Gold Medal for Long Service, the Medal for Contributions to Polish Analytical Chemistry, the National Education Commission Medal, and the title “Meritorious for the City of Łódź”. Together with her research team, she was awarded the prestigious “ŁÓDZKIE EUREKA” distinction. Since 2016, she has served as Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry at Ł ódź University of Technology and currently serves as Chair of the Discipline Council for Chemical Sciences and Director of the Institute of General and Ecological Chemistry. For the 2024-2028 term, she serves as Chair of the Analytical Chemistry Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences. She is a former President of the European Association of Chemistry and the Environment (ACE), a member of several scientific committees of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and frequently serves as an expert and reviewer in research and academic evaluation processes.
