Scientific achievements
Izabela Kowalczyk, MSc Eng., from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Engineering at Lodz University of Technology is a doctoral candidate and assistant conducting research in structural mechanics, materials engineering, and numerical methods. Her scientific output includes 7 publications listed in the JCR. Her work focuses primarily on modelling, optimization, and analysis of the dynamic properties of advanced materials and structural elements.
Research profile and research directions
Her scientific interests focus on numerical analysis and the optimization of engineering structures, with particular emphasis on composite plates, construction materials, and structural elements with variable stiffness and mass. In her research, she employs the finite element method (FEM), optimization algorithms, including genetic algorithms, as well as artificial intelligence tools for the evaluation and design of material geometries and mechanical properties.
Among her most significant achievements is her contribution to the development and analysis of numerical models of VIG (Vacuum Insulated Glazing) panels, taking into account their static and dynamic properties as well as the distribution of microstructural support elements. This research integrates FEM-based simulations, multi-objective optimization techniques, and machine learning approaches, supporting the design of energy-efficient, durable, and functional building materials.
Currently, she is advancing research on the dynamic optimization of structural elements with variable stiffness and mass. The outcomes of this work have potential applications in modern materials engineering and structural mechanics.
Honours and recognition from the scientific community
Izabela Kowalczyk participated in the project “Application of Neural Networks in Non-Destructive Dynamic Testing of Composite Plate Properties”, funded by the Polish Ministry of Education and Science under the program “Student Scientific Associations Create Innovations”. She is also involved in the implementation of the international project “Composite Shear Dowels”, carried out by Lodz University of Technology and funded by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, in collaboration with Brno University of Technology and industrial partners Skanska and PREFA KOMPOZITY.
Her engineering thesis was recognized in the Competition of the Minister of Development, Labour and Technology for the best diploma theses, doctoral dissertations, and publications in the fields of architecture and civil engineering, spatial planning and development, and housing.
