Professor Anna Masek from the Faculty of Chemistry at Lodz University of Technology specializes in polymer materials engineering, biopolymers, and sustainable material technologies. Her scientific output includes 141 JCR-indexed publications focused on advanced functional materials, biodegradable polymer composites, and circular economy solutions. She leads the BIOMATPOL research team, dedicated to bio-inspired polymeric materials.
Research profile and direcions
Her research focuses on the synthesis, modification, characterization, and design of biopolymeric materials with enhanced durability, environmental resistance, and advanced functional properties. A major area of interest is the use of natural bioactive compounds, renewable resources, biomass, and industrial by-products for the development of innovative biocomposites and environmentally friendly materials.
Professor Masek heads a unique laboratory for accelerated and simulated material ageing, enabling durability and functionality modeling of polymers. Her work has resulted in the development of innovative polymer materials aligned with circular economy principles. These solutions have been patented and implemented in industry, particularly in biodegradable packaging materials and composites stabilized with natural additives.
She also participates in the international DORIS and Horizon Europe NEXTMARINE projects, focused on the use of marine resources, including enzymes, for the development of novel biotechnologies.
Honours and recogniotion
Professor Masek actively collaborates with industry through numerous R&D projects involving partners such as Kraft Heinz Food Company, ABB, Atlas, BSH, CEMEX Research Group, and Colian. Research conducted at Lodz University of Technology contributed to an international patent held by Kraft Heinz Food Company.
She is the author and co-author of numerous patents and patent applications. Her achievements have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Polish Product of the Future distinction, the Silver Engineer 2021 title, and the Łódzkie Eureka Award. She is ranked among the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists according to Stanford University and serves as President of the Łódź Branch of SITPChem, as well as an expert for NCBR and PARP.
