Scientific achievements

Dr Hab. Eng. Tomasz Marszałek, Professor at Lodz University of Technology, from the Faculty of Chemistry, is a specialist in molecular electronics, materials physics, and thin-film engineering. His scientific output includes 109 publications listed in the JCR. His research results have been published in prestigious scientific journals such as Nature Materials, Nature Communication, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials oraz Materials Horizons.  

Research profile and research directions

His scientific interests focus on organic and hybrid semiconductors, thin-film structure, crystallization processes, and charge carrier transport. Professor Marszałek conducts research on the molecular design and control of the morphology of organic and perovskite materials used in field-effect transistors and flexible electronics.  

Among his most significant achievements is the development of new concepts for designing and controlling the growth of hybrid perovskite semiconductors, leading to improved performance of highly efficient field-effect transistors. This research made it possible to link crystallization processes, thin-film structure, and charge carrier transport, providing a basis for the development of efficient, low-cost, and flexible electronics. He is currently developing research on organic and perovskite materials for applications in flexible, neuromorphic, and energy-efficient electronic systems.  

Honours and recognition from the scientific community

Dr Hab. Tomasz Marszałek has led and participated in projects funded by the Foundation for Polish Science and the National Science Centre, including First Team projects and the OPUS 25 project on controlled crystallization in organic semiconductors. He cooperates with the high-tech sector, including XTPL S.A. in the field of precision nanomaterial printing and the Łódź-based company Sohor in the development of research apparatus for the characterization of flexible field-effect transistors.  

His scientific activity has a strong international dimension. For more than 10 years, he has cooperated with Professor Paul Blom’s group at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, resulting in joint projects and numerous publications in high-impact journals. He is also involved in international activities related to flexible electronics within a HORIZON-MSCA project and has delivered seminars at Japanese (including Osaka University, the University of Tokyo, and the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology) and South Korean institutions. In 2025, he received the Prime Minister’s Award for his habilitation dissertation in the field of physical sciences.  Dr hab. inż. Tomasz Marszałek, prof. PŁ, z Wydziału Chemicznego jest specjalistą w zakresie elektroniki molekularnej, fizyki materiałów oraz inżynierii cienkich warstw. Jego dorobek naukowy obejmuje 109 publikacji z listy JCR. Wyniki jego badań ukazały się w prestiżowych czasopismach naukowych, takich jak Nature Materials, Nature Communication, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials oraz Materials Horizons.
