Scientific achievements
Professor Dariusz M. Bieliński from the Faculty of Chemistry at Lodz University has a scientific profile that combines chemistry, engineering, and the technology of elastomeric materials. His scientific output includes 153 publications listed in the JCR. He is the founder and leader of the DB-Team research group, focused on advanced polymer materials, rubber technology, functional composites, fire-resistant materials, and solutions supporting the circular economy.
Research profile and research directions
His scientific interests include the structure and physicochemical properties of elastomers, vulcanization and devulcanization processes, surface functionalization of fillers and polymer materials, and the design of elastomeric composites with specialized functional properties. Professor Bieliński conducts research on ceramizable and fire-resistant materials, low-temperature elastomers for special applications, elastomeric nanocomposites, elastomer tribology, and the valorisation of waste and recycled products for the rubber industry.
Among his most significant achievements is the development of hybrid flame-retardant systems for elastomeric materials based on the phenomenon of ceramization. This solution limits material degradation and improves the safety of technical systems, including cables, electrical installations, buildings, and means of transport. Professor Bieliński has been involved in 34 research projects, is a co-author of 16 patents, and has supervised 17 doctoral candidates to completion.
Honours and recognition from the scientific community
Professor Bieliński actively cooperates with industry, carrying out R&D projects, expert analyses, and research services for national and international companies. He has collaborated with Sanok Rubber Company, Apollo Tyres, Michelin, Goodyear, K-Flex Polska, ANWIL, Hutchinson, Gumet, ABB, Makrochem, Reoil, Budimex, GAMBIT Lubawka, and partners of the Horizon 2020 FRONTSH1P project. The outcomes of this cooperation include solutions for the rubber, automotive, construction, and materials industries, including rubber recycling and devulcanization, low-temperature vulcanization, ceramizable composites, low-friction materials, and functional hybrid composites.
He holds numerous scientific, expert, and organizational roles. He is Vice-Dean for Development at the Faculty of Chemistry, a member of the Senate of Lodz University of Technology, chair of scientific councils of research institutes, and an expert for the European Commission, NCBR, NCN, FNP, and other institutions supporting science and innovation. He has served as a visiting professor at foreign institutions, including in the United Kingdom, France, Qatar, and Brazil. He is also one of the initiators of the international PhD Seminar in Rubber Technology. For his scientific and implementation achievements, he has received numerous awards and distinctions, including the Silver Cross of Merit, the Medal of the Commission of National Education, the Gold Medal for Long Service, the Polish Intelligent Development Award, and the main prize in the Łódzkie EUREKA competition for ceramizable polymer composites.
