A prestigious research project funded by the European Union under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship programme is being carried out at the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences. The programme, aimed at postdoctoral researchers, enables the implementation of ambitious research plans in an international environment. The Department of Environmental Biotechnology is hosting Dr Teresa Branysová from the Czech Academy of Sciences, who is conducting pioneering research in collaboration with Prof. Beata Gutarowska.

The scale of success is impressive—competition was intense. More than 17,000 applications were submitted to the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship programme, and only four grants were awarded to Poland.

Although they are often only micrometers thick, they determine the durability, safety, and functionality of objects. For example, they can improve the performance of air conditioners or increase the antiseptic properties of packaging. Natalia Szymańska, in the E2Top programme, identifies contemporary challenges in designing polymer coatings.

The latest results of the prestigious QS World University Rankings 2027 have been published. Despite growing competition, Lodz University of Technology has once again been ranked in the 1001–1200 band.

From 8–12 June 2026, Lodz University of Technology hosted an international Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) implemented within the ECIU network. The entire initiative was coordinated by the team of Sebastian Bakalarczyk, Agnieszka Pietras, and Iwona Staniec. The programmes “Digital Development Roadmaps” and “Digital Maturity Auditing and Process Optimization” attracted students from universities in Finland, France, Italy, Latvia, Hungary, Germany, Estonia, Lithuania, and Poland, who worked intensively for several days in international teams during a hackathon, tackling real business challenges.

Lodz Solar Team secured 3rd place in two categories at the international solar vehicle competition in France.

Colorants accompany us in clothing, cosmetics, and food, but they are rarely associated with extreme living conditions. Meanwhile, some of the most promising pigments are produced by microorganisms that thrive at high temperatures. Thermophiles produce compounds with intense colors, remarkable stability, and potential health benefits—and they may help reduce the industry’s dependence on synthetic, petroleum-based dyes. Could these “heat-loving” microorganisms become the answer to the ecological challenges of modern production? This is the goal pursued by Zuzanna Jachowicz, who, within the E2Top program, studied the carotenoid composition of selected thermophilic microorganisms.

Materials for special tasks—those resistant to moisture—have come under the scientific scrutiny of Izabela Myjak. A textile engineering student in the E2Top program, she investigated how fabric structure and surface modification affect hydrophobic properties.

Treatment of knee ligament injuries may soon become faster, more accurate, and completely painless. As part of the NCBR LIDER program, Katarzyna Piasecka, PhD from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is developing a non-invasive diagnostic system. Thanks to its precision—at a level expected by specialists—it has the potential to revolutionize how knee joint damage is detected.
