Scientific achievements

Professor Ewa Skrzetuska from the Faculty of Material Technologies and Textile Design of Lodz University of Technology, is an expert in materials engineering, smart textiles and textronic systems for medical and protective applications. Her research focuses on the design and fabrication of advanced textile structures integrating conductive materials, flexible electronics and physiological monitoring systems. She is the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications, patents and industry-oriented solutions developed in cooperation with industrial partners.

Research profile and scientific interest

Professor Skrzetuska’s research addresses the development of smart textile materials for healthcare, rehabilitation and medical monitoring. Her work combines graphene, carbon nanotubes, conductive polymers, printing technologies and computer embroidery to create innovative textile sensors capable of monitoring respiration, temperature, humidity and other physiological parameters. A major focus of her research is the development of intelligent garments for premature infants, incorporating textile-based monitoring systems that improve neonatal care and patient safety. Her technologies also support applications in rehabilitation, protective clothing, wearable electronics and advanced biomaterials. She has participated in and coordinated research activities within projects funded by the National Science Centre, the National Centre for Research and Development, Norway Grants and the European Commission. She currently leads a work package dedicated to wound-healing monitoring sensors within the international RESILIENCE project.

Recognition and impact

The technologies developed by Professor Skrzetuska are protected by patents and have been commercialised in cooperation with industry partners, including Tricomed S.A. She has received numerous awards for scientific, educational and innovative achievements, including the Medal of the Commission of National Education, the Long Service Medal and several Rector’s Awards of Lodz University of Technology. Her inventions have also been recognised at prestigious international innovation exhibitions such as Geneva Inventions, Concours Lépine, Archimedes and i-ENVEX. Through extensive collaboration with scientific institutions, healthcare organisations and industry partners, she contributes significantly to the advancement of smart medical textiles and next-generation healthcare technologies.
