Scientific achievements
Professor Krzysztof Jóźwik from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Lodz University of Technology, is recognized for his expertise in mechanical and biomedical engineering. His academic contributions encompass over 65 publications in JCR-indexed journals, academic books, including the monograph Modelling of Blood Flows, and chapters in monographs on the Polish Artificial Heart project.
Research profile and directions
His research focuses on fluid and gas dynamics modeling. He has collaborated extensively with industry partners such as Dresser-Rand, Faurecia, PSA Citroën & Peugeot, and Airbus Helicopters. His research findings have been applied to gas turbines, small-scale wind turbines, mercury removal systems for lignite-fired power plants, aerosol container disposal methods, and the development of the propeller propulsion system for the Eurocopter X3, the world’s fastest helicopter.
He has also developed numerical methods for blood flow analysis in collaboration with the Polish Mother's Health Center Institute in Lodz and the Professor Zbigniew Religa Foundation of Cardiac Surgery Development. These methods supported the „Polish Artificial Heart” programme, particularly in developing mechanical heart valves and an air supply system for pneumatic ventricular assist device controllers.
He has led ten Polish and two international research projects, participated in a further seventeen research projects, and completed over 200 industrial contracts valued at more than PLN 14 million. He is a co-inventor on ten patents and fifteen patent applications.
Awards and recognition
He has received numerous awards and distinctions for his scientific achievements. He was awarded the title of Diamond Engineer and has received, among other honours, the Bronze Cross of Merit, the Gold Cross of Merit, the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, and the Gold Medal of Merit for Polish Science "Sapientia et Veritas". He has also received the distinctions “Meritorious for the City of Łódź” and “Meritorious for the Łódź Voivodeship”.
He serves as Chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Technical Universities (KRPUT) for the 2024–2028 term and has served as Rector of Lodz University of Technology since 2020.
He is a member of the Scientific Council of the Professor Zbigniew Religa Foundation of Cardiac Surgery Development and Chairman of the Łukasiewicz Center Council – Lodz Institute of Technology.
Professor Krzysztof Jóźwik is a member of the Committee on Machine Construction of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He has frequently served as an expert and reviewer for grants and academic promotion applications throughout his career.
