Scientific achievements
Prof. Anna Fabijańska of the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering, Lodz University of Technology, is a recognized expert in computer vision and AI. Her output includes nearly 140 publications, among them 39 JCR-listed articles, published e.g. in IEEE Trans. Image Processing, IEEE Trans. Medical Imaging, Medical Image Analysis, Neurocomputing, Nature Communications, and Artificial Intelligence in Medicine.
Research profile and directions
For many years she has developed methods for automatic image-data analysis for medicine, environmental sciences, industry, and business analytics, using machine learning and deep neural networks. In medicine, she develops computer-aided diagnostic imaging methods spanning general medical and ophthalmic diagnostics. She also studies neural-network applications in Earth sciences (dendrochronological and varve analysis), 3D reconstruction in industrial electrical capacitance tomography (ECT), and AI/ML applications in corporate financial and investment analysis. She led projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and NAWA, and was a machine-learning expert in NCBR-funded projects.
Awards and recognition
Since 2020 listed among the World's Top 2% Scientists (AI & Image Processing). Recipient of an award for outstanding achievements by young scholars of the Łódź Voivodeship; scholarship holder of the START programme (FNP) and a Ministry programme for outstanding young scientists. Decorated with the Bronze Cross of Merit and the Medal of the National Education Commission.
Active in scientific organizations: Vice-Chair of the Committee on Computer Science, Polish Academy of Sciences; Chair of the Discipline Council for Technical Computer Science and Telecommunications, Lodz University of Technology; and Board Member of Euro-CASE. She sits on the editorial boards of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence, and Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. In 2024 she chaired a SAPEA (Science Advice for Policy by European Academies) working group advising the European Commission on AI in science.Prof. dr hab. inż.
