Scientific achievements
Professor Elżbieta Klewicka, PhD, DSc, Eng, is a specialist in food and nutrition technology, food biotechnology, and industrial microbiology. Associated with the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences of the Lodz University of Technology. Her scientific achievements include 90 scientific publications, over 130 conference reports, 13 patents, and one industrial implementation.
Research profile and research directions
Professor Elżbieta Klewicka belongs to a group of researchers who have groundbreakingly combined lactic acid fermentation, prebiotics, polyphenols, and probiotics into a single, coherent concept of functional foods. Her research focuses on the design of modern functional foods and understanding the mechanisms by which probiotic microorganisms and polyphenolic compounds affect human health – key areas for current trends in food science, nutrigenomics, and public health.
Among her most important implementation achievements is the co-authorship of the industrial implementation of the probiotic preparation LATOPIC, intended to support dietary management of atopic dermatitis. The preparation was developed based on patented strains of lactic acid bacteria and is an example of the effective transfer of scientific research results into economic and medical practice.
Accreditations and Recognition from the Scientific Community
Professor Elżbieta Klewicka enjoys recognition from the national and international scientific community. She serves on the editorial board of the journal Processes and on the scientific advisory board of the journal Food, Science, Technology, Quality. She also participates as an expert in the evaluation of research projects funded by the National Science Centre and the National Centre for Research and Development. She is an active member of the Polish Society of Food Technologists, where she was one of the initiators of the Probiotics and Prebiotics Section.
She won the Silver Medal at the Korea International Women's Invention Exposition 2009 for her team project "The novel preparation for animal food application" in Seoul, Korea.
The professor is also very active in the university community. She has served twice as a member of the Senate of Lodz University of Technology, served on numerous Senate committees, and chaired committees related to doctoral education.
