Lodz University of Technology will be working on the design of a microalgae separation system. Microalgae are now being used to a limited extent due to the complicated process and high cost of extracting these sea treasures. They grow in salt water and can be used to supplement the resources of microorganism grown in freshwater and in agricultural areas, used in the production of food, chemical products and medicines.

The leader of the project is the biotechnological start-up uFraction8 PL, partnered with the Institute of Turbomachinery of Lodz University of Technology, as well as the Pintech Quantum and Get Models Now companies.

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education has allocated 6.5 million PLN to Lodz University of Technology, to subsidize the investment project called “Renovation of the 2nd Dormitory”.

The renovation is necessary mainly due to the situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemics and the need to minimize the risk of contracting COVID-19 among students and dormitory personnel. Moreover, housing offered by the university should guarantee the possibility of isolating the ill, which makes it necessary to increase the number of individual rooms with bathrooms.

Lodz University of Technology and the Lodz Voivodship have concluded an agreement on cooperation in the field of cyber security. The plan is to create a nationally unique "Competence Centre for Computer Forensics and Cyber Security", the first element of which will be a "Workshop for digital modelling of crime scenes", which Lodz University of Technology will equip with specialist equipment. The voivodship will provide PLN 282,000 for this purpose. The university's own contribution will amount to PLN 94,000.

The National Centre for Research and Development has published a list of projects selected in the competition "Accessible university II. The university will receive nearly PLN 15 million from the Operational Programme "Knowledge Education Development" for the activities planned in the project.

- Such a large amount of funding means that we have planned many activities that match the title of the project - Accessible Lodz University of Technology. Our application has 268 pages, and when I put my signature on each of them, I knew that this is the beginning of changes which will strengthen the widely understood openness of the university,' says the Rector, professor Krzysztof Jóźwik

The Academic Sports Gala was originally scheduled to take place in October at the Sports Bay of Lodz University of Technology. Due to the pandemic the plans were changed and this year's summary of the sporting competition took place online on Tuesday, 15 December. Lodz University of Technology once again stood on the podium in the medal classification.

The University has published regulations of incentive awards. The aim of this initiative is to strive for Lodz University of Technology gaining the status of a Research University. It will not be possible without, among others, a large number of widely cited publications and research projects carried out under prestigious grants.

Hubert Antolak, a young scientist from Lodz University of Technology, received a scientific award from the Division IV of Technical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences for his doctoral dissertation "Asaia spp. bacteria as a new contaminant of functional beverages" and 8 articles thematically related to this dissertation.

The MINIATURE competition, announced for the 4th time by the National Science Centre, has selected 178 winners. Eight scientists from Lodz University of Technology will receive grants. This is a success, because according to the published ranking list, only 31 projects from technical universities will receive funding. Therefore, we would all the more like to congratulate our scientists on the financial support for the preparation of a research project.

The just published QS Emerging Europe&Central Asia University Rankings classified 400 universities. Lodz University of Technology was classified on 91st position, up by 10 places in comparison to last year. This is the biggest edition of the ranking so far.

An international research team consisting of professor Tomasz Kubiak and his doctoral student Paweł Czapski from the Department of Strength of Materials at Lodz University of Technology has been recommended for funding of research important for stability of structures in which thin-walled composite columns are used. This modern technology is used, for example, in the aerospace industry (aircraft, helicopters), the automotive industry and also in relation to wind turbines.

The National Agency for Academic Exchange has announced the results of the recruitment process for the 3rd edition of the Mieczysław Bekker Programme. One of the scholarship holders is Dr Maciej Fronczak from the Faculty of Process and Environmental Engineering at Lodz University of Technology. The young scientist will embark on a postdoctoral internship at the Natural Sciences Research Centre in Budapest

The Students’ Self-Government of Lodz University of Technology has decided to elect the Best Teacher of the Year 2019/2020. Times are such that students and staff see each other more often through a computer screen than in person. Education, although more online, has not ceased to be a real source of acquiring knowledge and competences. The new situation requires both the teachers and the students to meet different challenges.
