On December 6, 2023, His Excellency Mark Brzezinski, Ambassador of the United States to Poland, visited Lodz University of Technology. The main purpose of the Ambassador's visit was to have a meeting with students.

The Business Zone is becoming more and more vibrant. In yet another new teaching and learning room, green is the predominant hue, whereas the contrasting white lettering encourage cross-continental collaboration. The adjacent PBL and DT co-working room is equipped with comfy couches, armchairs, and coffee tables. It is your dream spot for creative thinking or for immersing yourself in peaceful reflection that precedes brainstorming. In no way does the decor, designed by JTI, or Japan Tobacco International, evoke the profile of the company's operations.

The Dean of the TUL's Faculty of Chemistry claimed this success during the General Assembly of ACE (Association of Chemistry and the Environment), held in Montenegro, during the 23rd European Meeting of Environmental Chemistry (EMEC23).

Representatives of Marmara University in Istanbul visited Lodz University of Technology in the framework of an international project called the Interdisciplinary University Entrepreneurship Support Program (InterHEI). Sema Gunduz, prof. Oğuzhan Gündüz, and doc. Nazmi Ekren toured the laboratories of several faculties and that of ICRI-BioM. Dr inż. Iwona Staniec, the TUL InterHEI coordinator, gave a presentation of the research infrastructure that was involved in the RIC Academy held in the course of the project.

The end of November 2023 saw a two-day meeting of the representatives of the Office of the City of Cracow and members of the European consortium implementing the project 'Complex Awareness Raising and Behaviour Change for the Mercury-Free City Environment (LIFE MERCURY-FREE)', or living free of mercury.

I interview dr hab. inż. Katarzyna Nawrotek of ICRI-BioM about the grant for the project 'Biomaterials inducing of DNA demethylation as tools for neuronal regenerative therapies of the future', won in the NCN OPUS 25 call. The research will be carried out in collaboration with dr Przemysław Płociński of the Department of Immunology and Infectious Biology at the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection at the University of Lodz. This interdisciplinary group also includes international scientists: dr Anika Nagelkerke, Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy in the Netherlands, and dr Ksenia Skvortsova, Garvan Institute of Medical Research, Australia.

I asked two researchers from the Bioactive Phytochemicals and Nutrigenomics Group to meet me to talk about how diet affects our health. We sat down together at the Institute of Molecular and Industrial Biotechnology, home to TUL's largest collection of cell lines (mainly human, but also animal ones), available for use by other researchers at our university and in Poland.

The Business Zone in  the Faculty of Organization and Management has grown larger yet with the new functional space designed and paid for by the company that is well-established in Łódź and in Poland, namely BSH Sprzęt Gospodarstwa Domowego Sp. z o.o., present in the Polish market for 30 years now.

Dr hab. inż. Anna Diowksz, TUL prof., Institute of Fermentation Technology and Microbiology at the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences, is a specialist in fermentation technology particularly interested in technologies used to improve the production of bread.

Adam Niziołek, who recently graduated from TUL with a first degree in Architecture, received two awards for his thesis on The Evolution of space: Narutowicza Street in Łódź (Ewolucja przestrzeni na przykładzie ulicy Narutowicza w Łodzi). The thesis was supervised by dr. inż. arch. Aneta Tomczak. Adam Niziołek is currently pursuing a second degree in Architecture also at Lodz University of Technology.

Strefa Biznesu (The Business Zone) has grown bigger yet with the addition of another teaching room sponsored by a company cooperating with the Faculty of Organization and Management. The opening of the laboratory, equipped and furnished by Geis PL sp. z o.o., was attended by quite a large number of students who were introduced to the prospects of internships and apprenticeships by Dorota Wójcik, the company's head of HR.

Lodz University of Technology and the Polish Mother's Memorial Hospital - Research Institute (ICZMP) presented the results of a three-year collaborative project to advance cancer diagnosis. The conference concluding the MDB-Medical Data Bank project was held at the EEIA Faculty, with the individuals who managed that tremendous undertaking in attendance.
